About

GARTH is located in the historic borough of Columbia, Pennsylvania—conveniently located between Harrisburg, York and Lancaster. A few hundred yards from the banks of the Susquehanna River, our gallery, framing studio, event venue, and café is housed in a mid-19th century storefront and carriage house. We are only 89 miles west of Philadelphia, 65 miles north of Baltimore, only 172 miles west of New York City, and mere minutes from Lancaster County’s famous Amish region.

Since our founding in 2001, The Gallery at GARTH and Frame Shop has committed to the needs of individuals and companies requiring a comprehensive resource for both art and custom framing.

Visitors to GARTH can enjoy freshly roasted coffee from the cafe, roasted in a vintage 1905 Royal #5 roaster. The second floor Gallery provides an exciting space for connecting with friends, and enjoying local and nationally recognized artwork.

The boutique event space is unlike anything around, and can host gatherings of up to 100+ guests.

Cleon Garth Berntheizel, Founder & Proprietor

A native of Columbia, Pennsylvania, Cle Berntheizel graduated from the York Academy of Arts. Next stop, New York City, where he developed a modeling career and augmented his income with graphic design work. Four years later, he returned to Columbia where he initiated an exhaustive portfolio of local landmarks meticulously rendered in pen and ink. Within the next decade, Cle established himself in various related fields from printing to, eventually, becoming vice-president of sales for a well-respected advertising agency in Lancaster.

Today, Cle is founder and proprietor of GARTH, which consists of a gallery, frame shop, events venue, and a cafe in Columbia, Pennsylvania. All of these are housed in a charming 1870’s brick structure located within Columbia’s beautiful historic district.

Cle's vision for the community’s future comes into focus as a councilman for Columbia Borough and as a board member of Columbia Downtown Development Corporation (now known as Create Columbia), and as a participant in other community organizations.
